June 10 - Secondary Home School Hybrid Learning Model Option for September 2021

June 10, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Today, we are sharing important information regarding remote learning for secondary students during the 2021-2022 school year. Please read this information carefully, as this is your family’s opportunity to switch from in-person to hybrid learning for students who are currently in Grades 8-12.

While we encourage all students to plan to attend school in-person in September 2021, we want to inform parents, guardians and students aged 18 years or older of the option to enrol in the board’s existing home school hybrid learning model.

In April, we asked virtual secondary school families for their potential interest in a remote learning option for the 2021-2022 school year. The survey results indicated that we do not have sufficient numbers to provide a virtual secondary school next year.

We understand that a virtual learning environment may be a future option desired by or necessary for some families. In an effort to accommodate families, we are offering  a Home School Hybrid Learning option for secondary students. This hybrid learning model allows remote learners to be taught at the same time as in-person learners, while remaining connected to their secondary school community.

What do I need to do?

You DO NOT have to do anything if you want your child to attend in-person learning in September. Students in Grades 8-12 will be considered in-person learners by default.

If you DO want your child to learn remotely through our home school hybrid model, then parents, guardians and students 18 years and older must complete the PermissionClick form to commit to the home school hybrid learning model.

This form will be emailed to you directly from PermissionClick on Thursday, June 10 at 2:00 p.m. and will close on Friday, June 18 at 4:00 p.m.  Please check your inbox’s junk and/or clutter folders to ensure you have received this email.

If the form is not completed by the closing date, students will be enrolled as in-person learners for September.

Course selection

It is important to note that not all secondary courses will be available through the hybrid model. You will not need to choose courses again, as your original course selection sheet will be taken into consideration when timetabling.

Switching from Hybrid Learning to In-Person

The first opportunity to switch from the home school hybrid learning model to in-person will be at the end of the first quadmester. Parents/Guardians who wish to change their child’s mode of learning for the second quadmester must contact the school at least two weeks before the end of quadmester 1 ( November 11, 2021)  to request the change.

For questions regarding your child’s timetable, please contact your secondary school’s Guidance and/or Administration team. To learn more about the model, read the frequently asked questions
